If you’ve lost a significant amount of weight, you may notice that your buttocks may be sagging or that you have excess, loose skin in this area. This loose skin may prevent you from enjoying the full aesthetic rewards of your weight loss. A buttocks lift is a procedure cosmetic surgery procedure that can help you to gain a more pleasing shape.
Dr. Kao or Dr. Wallman will talk with you about your specific goals with a buttock lift. In most cases, liposuction is the first step with this procedure. With liposuction, any additional remaining fat can be removed. This also loosens the skin for repositioning. For repositioning, an incision is made at the belt line. Excess or loose skin is then pulled up towards the midsection until the buttocks contours are firmer and more defined. Many people decide to complement a buttock lift with other procedures such as a tummy tuck. This combination of surgery is also referred to as a Belt Lipectomy.
After a buttocks lift, most people return to their usual activities in 4-6 weeks. As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks. During the healing process, there is a small risk of infection should the skin incision open. For about a year following the procedure, many people report numbness in the buttocks area. After a period of time, some re-sagging is possible. It is also possible that you may notice some asymmetry in your buttocks.
